Summer is here, and it’s full of grilling, roadtrips, patio dining, and vacations short and long. Oh…and of course cooling off by the pool. The best event to do that at is the Fusion Women’s Pool Party on Saturday August 6.
First we’d like to wish everyone out there, no matter what or how you celebrate, a safe and Happy Holidays and New Year. 2015 was an exciting year for not only us, but for LBGTQ rights everywhere. Though the struggle and fight is not over, great strides were made worldwide for the LBGTQ community. Yes, we still have our share of Kim Davis out there, but we’ll choose to have a brief recap of some of the strides that were made.
Courts all over the country struck down bans on same-sex marriage in states like South Dakota, Alabama, and Nebraska. States and cities/towns reinforced bans on discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in employment and housing. Countries like Austria, Luxemburg, Slovenia, Greenland, and Mexico made progress for marriage and adoption rights for same sex couples. The Pentagon announced that transgender personnel can openly serve in the US Military starting in 2016. Also, Nepal started to issue passports to transgendered people marking a important cultural shift. Here at home one of the biggest stories was the US Supreme Court ruled that bans on same sex marriage violates the US Constitution. Those are just a handful of the events of progress across the world.
Summer is definitely our favorite time of year. Working hard, playing harder, and nothing’s better on a hot day than a cool drink and a dip in the pool. Well, maybe doing it with hundreds of other women on a Sunday afternoon with great DJs playing would be better. Yeah…that’s definitely better.
Our annual Fusion Women’s Pool Party is heading into it’s 7th year, and we continue the tradition at the The County Club by Mojitos (formerly known as the Randolph Country Club) located at 44 Mazzeo Drive Randolph MA from 12pm – 7pm. Featuring two great DJs during the day in Jamila Afrika and La Nena, games, wet t-shirt contest, and more.
